What is an Exchange™?

An Exchange™ is a monthly candid and completely confidential idea sharing and skill-building experience led by an experienced mentor and a highly skilled conductor (facilitator). Think of it as your own personal advisory board.

As an Exchange™ member, you will be matched up with 10 other business leaders with similar authority from non-competing companies. You'll meet for half-a-day, once a month, to focus on goals and action plans, learn new skills, share experience, and get feedback - the type of feedback you can rarely get within your own company.

What is the difference between an Exchange™ and Coaching?

An Exchange™ is a group of peers who meet monthly with an experience business mentor and a trained conductor (facilitator) with a focus on sharing experience, best practices, and becoming better leaders, visionaries, and managers - similar to your own personal board of advisors. Coaching is a weekly one-on-one experience where the coach works with an individual on specific goals, weaknesses, or opportunities, to help you structure the approaches you use in your business and personal life.

How is an Exchange™ different from a TEC Forum?

  • ViRTUS Exchanges™ are a half-day per month and TEC Forums are a full day.
  • ViRTUS Exchanges™ are co-conducted by an experienced business mentor and a highly trained conductor. A TEC Chairperson facilitates TEC Forums.
  • TEC Forums include a monthly two-hour, one-on-one session with the TEC Chairperson who facilitates your Forum.
  • The ViRTUS Exchange™ experience is $6,000 per year. TEC is approximately $14,500 per year.

How is ViRTUS different from YPO and EO (formerly YEO) Forums?

  • ViRTUS Exchanges™ are co-conducted by an experienced business mentor and a highly trained conductor. YPO and EO Forums are self-moderated.
  • ViRTUS Exchanges™ are segmented into President/Entrepreneur, Executives, and Senior Managers, grouped together by level of authority and ranges of revenue. YPO is for Presidents only whose businesses are larger than $8,000,000 USD, with more than 50 full-time employees. EO is for Entrepreneurs only whose businesses are larger than $1,000,000 USD.
  • YPO and EO have monthly chapter social/learning events (the YPO events are mandatory and spousal attendance is highly encouraged).
  • The ViRTUS Exchange™ experience is $6,000 per year. Average EO yearly dues are $12,000 (includes chapter, forum, retreat and university expenses). Average YPO yearly dues are $20,000 (includes chapter, forum, retreat and university expenses).

How often do the Exchanges™ take place?

Exchanges™ take place monthly. Each group has 10 Exchanges™ and a two-day Advance™ (retreat) each year.

Where do the Exchanges™ take place?

Exchanges™ rotate between Exchange™ member's boardrooms. Occasionally they are held at the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club, Terminal City Club, or Hollyburn Country Club.

How am I matched up with other business peers in an Exchange™?

Your profile is compared to other non-competing businesses of a similar size and scope to find a group of peers that will provide a mutually beneficial exchange.

What time and day of the week do the Exchanges™ happen?

Exchanges™ take place Monday - Friday, from 7:30am - 12:00pm or from 12:30pm - 5:00pm. They start and finish on time.

How do the meeting dates get set?

The conductor initiates the scheduling of dates six months ahead of time. Members decide on the dates and times that work best for everyone.

I would like to sit in on an Exchange™ and get a better idea of how it works. Can I do that?

Since confidentiality is the hallmark of an Exchange™ it is not possible to have guests sit in. We would be happy to give you the name and phone numbers of existing ViRTUS Exchange™ members for you to call as references. As well, you will have an opportunity to review the group list and view the websites of the other members of the group to check for fit.

Is this a year-long program? How long does the Exchange™ experience last?

We would love for you to stay in your Exchange™ for as long as you are receiving return on the time and money you're investing.

How do I pay for my Exchange™?

Annual Exchange dues are payable by Visa, American Express, Mastercard or Cheque.

How many people are in an Exchange™?

Each Exchange™ has a minimum of 5 Members, a maximum of 11 Members, and is co-conducted by a business mentor (a very successful, prominent business leader) and a conductor (an expert facilitator trained in group process and dynamics).

What is the main benefit of being in an Exchange™?

The Exchange™ is designed to help you become a better leader, visionary, and manager through learning specific competencies and through interacting and learning from your peers.

What takes place during the 4 1/2 hours of the Exchange™?

The Exchange™ is broken down into four key components, wrapped with a welcoming and a closing. The four components are:

  1. Four Arenas (a 3 minute check-in to quickly update the other members on where you are at)
  2. Intention-Action Connection (an opportunity to plan your 30-60 day goals and action plans so that you are focusing on what's important in your career/business and life)
  3. Competency Exchange™ (a learning component focusing on one of the ViRTUS Five Pillars of Success - Financial Management, Vision/Mission, Communication, Leadership and Internal Motivation, and Commitment to Action)
  4. Opportunities and Alligators (you can make a presentation to the group on an issue that you need assistance on and get their feedback in the form of, "If I was in your shoes, I would...")
